With board exam results announced recently, a new chapter begins for lakhs of students,
filled with optimism, uncertainty, and tremendous pressure. Choosing the right college is a watershed moment that shapes a student's destiny. However, peer pressure, high expectations at home, and the abundance of online information might make them uneasy and worried. As the higher education landscape evolves rapidly, particularly under the National Education Policy, students seek support that balances emotional well-being with practical decision-making. Therefore, It is important to seek guidance that promotes clarity of thought and peace of mind.
Around 17.88 lakh students sat for the CBSE Class 12 exams in March this year, while
99,551 students took the ICSE Class 12 exams. In addition to CBSE and ICSE, millions of
students across India complete their education through various states and other boards.
Students often worry about marks and entrance exams. On top of it, choosing the right
college and course can be a tough decision. This pressure, if not managed well, can affect
a student's mental health.
How to handle the application process for colleges
Maintaining a schedule is essential when filling out numerous college applications. You
can begin by segmenting the college application process into more manageable, smaller
activities. For example, you can create a list of people to ask for references or choose an
essay topic. Mark all the due dates for your applications and set aside specific times to
complete them. This guarantees you meet all deadlines without last-minute stress. You
can use planners, calendars or apps to organise your day and manage time efficiently.
It is essential to consider that rejection is possible for certain applications. Hence, work on
a second plan that will come in handy if you are unable to get admission to your preferred
college or course. For this, you should apply to a balanced mix of top-ranked, mid-level,
and backup colleges to enhance your chances of getting admission. You must compile a
list of at least five colleges you are interested in, rank them according to your preferences,
and then work towards your objective
Thirdly, do extra research before selecting a college. To do this, you can enroll in some
online courses and trial classes. You can also consult with college counsellors to better
understand a particular course and can even get information by attending college fairs.
Take care of yourself
As you prepare for college, incorporate exercise, meditation, and hobbies in your daily life.
Spending quality time with loved ones can revitalise you. Keep yourself busy while you
wait for application responses, and don't let the outcome of your college application affect
how valuable you feel.
If you're feeling overwhelmed, don't be scared to ask friends and family for help. They will
offer beneficial advice and support and you will feel relieved and gain insight by discussing
your anxieties and fears with them.
Consuming a well-balanced nutritious diet can improve your concentration and reduce
stress. Meals that include fruits, vegetables, healthy grains, and proteins boost brain
function and give steady energy. Sugary snacks and fast food should be avoided as these
may lead to mood changes and fatigue. Drinking plenty of water can help you stay
refreshed and mentally alert during this stressful time, making it easier to focus and think
clearly.
Getting enough sleep is essential during the exam and admissions season. Sleeping
seven to nine hours per night can improve learning, memory, and vitality. You should
maintain a consistent sleep schedule and reduce screen time before bed to enhance the
quality of your sleep. Reading, using white noise, or listening to soothing music can all
help the mind relax before bedtime.
Conclusion
As you prepare to start a new chapter of your life, remember that this journey is not just
about getting into the best college but about discovering who you are and what truly
excites you. Stay curious, be kind to yourself, and trust the process. Every step, even the
uncertain ones, will shape you into the person you're meant to become. Instead of letting
fear take over, treating this journey as a chance to grow, explore, and learn more about
yourself is better.
