London's Newest Icon - Hindujas transform Winston Churchill's War Office into a Luxury Hotel The Old War Office (OWO) features 120 rooms, suites, residences, restaurants and spas

The Old War Office, an iconic building in London that was originally constructed in 1906 and served as the office of Prime Minister Winston Churchill during World War II, will be opening to the public on September 29, 2023. The historic structure has been restored by the Hinduja Group and transformed into a luxury hotel.

The transformation of the iconic building began eight years ago when the Hindujas, an Indian-origin conglomerate, and the UK's wealthiest family acquired it. They collaborated with Raffles Hotels & Resorts to create a world-class luxury hotel with 120 rooms, suites, residences, restaurants and spas.

In an official statement, Sanjay Hinduja of the Hinduja Group said, "When we came to Whitehall, the team were blown away by the size and beauty of this majestic building. No expense has been spared in bringing it back to its former glory and paying homage to its heritage, whilst breathing new life into it."

According to a Business Insider report, the official opening of Raffles London (at The OWO) is scheduled for September 29, 2023. The upgrade was a joint project between Hinduja Group and French multinational hospitality group Accor. Expressing his desire to create a timeless legacy, Hinduja added, “Along with Raffles London at the OWO, we hope to create a legacy that is both timeless and unsurpassed.

Designed by British architect William Young, the Old War Office was completed in 1906. It served as an office for several well-known leaders such as Winston Churchill, Sir Richard Haldane, and David Lloyd. Located in the west wing, the Heritage Suites, has been transformed into a six-bedroom suite that can house up to twelve guests. Additionally, other impressive parts of the building include a Drawing Room and an all-day dining lounge.

In an official statement, Philippe Leboeuf, the Managing Director of Raffles London at The OWO, said, "At Raffles London, the history of the former Old War Office lives on, through its splendid architecture, carefully chosen interior design and expansive Heritage Suites. We are excited to provide guests with the highly personalised and intuitive service for which Raffles is known the world over. Visitors will be spoiled for choice with the eclectic array of world-class restaurants and bars in an unrivalled location."

According to The Times of India, the Old War Office also includes 85 residences, as part of a lavish renovation that also features nine new restaurants and three notable bars with stunning views of Buckingham Palace. The restoration involved a team of skilled artisans who worked to revive the intricate mosaic floors, chandeliers, marble staircase, oak panelling, and other historic features of the building. Located on the former site of Whitehall Palace, the Old War Office has been given a new lease on life.
