The Defiance Technologies team present a demo of their solution at SAP TechEd
Pruthveesh Narayanamurthy from Defiance Technologies along with Krishna Kumar from SAP Custom Development won the third place at the TechEd Demo Jam Competition held recently at SAP TechEd 2012, Bangalore, India. The duo presented an engaging demo of their solution 'Reuse Code Using SAP HANA - Cut the System Landscape Boundaries Safely'.
Speaking about the demo, Pruthveesh said, "Our demo was about a tool built for reusing code through SAP HANA. The first part of our solution was about building a repository where all the code and related object definitions are stored in a hierarchical format in HANA database. Code and related objects are extracted and uploaded to a central SAP HANA system in an XML format. An entire project can be extracted and uploaded as an XML file making it very easy to store data. Access from SAP HANA is also extremely fast, making retrieval of data in almost real time."
An extractor programme, which does not need a data dictionary or other objects to be created in the system, was used for this purpose. The programme also runs on any version of SAP NetWeaver. The second part of their solution was to provide the search engine for the repository of code and objects to help with better reuse.
"We created a simple, easy-to-use search page, almost like Google. Our search engine allows searches in generic as well as technical references. This search engine can also do a text search on the repository like code comments. This could be used to search for technical details like name of a BAPI or even an ABAP keyword. Fuzzy search is enabled on the searches so that even closely matching results are also shown in the result list. We plan to go-live shortly with our solution," he added.
According to Pruthveesh, participating at Demo Jam "was quite intense." All they had were six minutes, no time for PowerPoint presentations or detailed explanations. Their idea had to be directly presented to the audience which included users, developers and experts from various industries. "We were judged based on the audience response measured by the 'Clap-o-Meter'. At the finals there were just seven demos selected out of more than 100 ideas submitted. It was a thrilling experience to showcase an idea in front of such a great audience," he said.
