Dr. Jaishree Jagirdar from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas, brought out the therapeutic significance of sub typing non-small lung carcinomas in this era of targeted therapies. It was significant to separate out metastasis from primary tumour to avoid suboptimal treatment. Staging and newer classification of lung carcinomas was elaborated as well.
Dr. Sunil Badve from Indiana University talked on molecular prognostic markers in the sub classification and management of breast cancers. Use of sentinel lymphnodes in upstaging patients to avoid Axillary Lymph Node Dissection ALND in all breast cancer and use of gene assays e.g. Oncotype Dx, Mammaprint and adjuvant online in clinical decision making.
Dr. Satish Tickoo from the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), New York, discussed the new revised renal cell cancer classification discussed at the 2012 Consensus Meeting of International Society of Urological Pathology (ISUP) in Vancouver, Canada. These newly recognised entities are seen in special situations of cystic disease of kidneys.
